Quick Tour

This walkthrough introduces the main features of Ward.

Ward organizes features into tabs at the bottom of the screen (mobile) or a sidebar (web/tablet):

  • Dashboard - Unit overview and compliance metrics
  • Patients - Your assigned patients
  • Shift - Current shift information and assignments
  • Rounds - Environment of Care inspections
  • Alerts - Active alerts requiring attention
  • Analytics - Compliance trends and reporting (Charge Nurse and above)

Dashboard

The dashboard provides a real-time view of your unit:

  • Compliance metrics showing on-time observation percentage
  • Recent events timeline showing observations and alerts
  • Night mode indicator when night mode is active
Patient sidebar

On wider screens (landscape tablets and desktop), the patient list is always visible as a sidebar alongside every screen. Staff can navigate to any patient from the dashboard, alerts, shift view, or any other screen without switching tabs.

Charge nurses see additional sections for staff assignments and performance.

Documenting an Observation

  1. Select a patient from the patient sidebar or the Patients tab
  2. Tap on a patient to open their detail screen
  3. Tap Observe tab
  4. Wait for proximity verification, or complete manual override
  5. Select a quick template or choose status and location manually
  6. Add notes if needed
  7. Tap Submit

After submission, the form is cleared so you can continue with the same patient or navigate away.

Responding to Alerts

Alerts

When an observation becomes overdue or a sensor detects an event:

  1. You receive a push notification
  2. Navigate to Alerts tab
  3. Tap an alert to view details
  4. Choose an action:
    • Responding now - You're addressing the situation
    • Delegate - Assign to another staff member
    • Already resolved - Situation was already handled

For safety events (critical vitals, 1:1 gaps), you must document the action taken.

Starting Your Shift

Shift View

  1. Navigate to Shift tab
  2. Tap Start Shift
  3. Review your patient assignments
  4. Review and acknowledge any flagged handoff notes from the previous shift
  5. Review active alerts on the unit
  6. Tap Accept & Start Shift

Completing EOC Rounds

Rounds

  1. Navigate to Rounds tab
  2. Select a route to begin
  3. At each location, scan the QR code
  4. Complete the checklist items
  5. Document any issues found
  6. Issues automatically generate work orders

Viewing Analytics (Charge Nurse+)

Analytics

  1. Navigate to Analytics (via dashboard or sidebar)
  2. View compliance trends over time
  3. See observations by shift
  4. Export data as CSV for reporting
